About Uta Staley

For many years, philanthropist, private investor, and former travel professional Uta Staley has been immersed in a wide variety of occupational and recreational endeavors in Chicago, Illinois, where she currently resides. As a major donor to numerous nonprofits and charities in the greater Chicago metropolitan area and beyond, Staley promotes the continued success of local institutions that support the arts, history, science, and culture.

A longtime patron of the visual arts and music, Uta Staley has provided funding for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and The Art Institute of Chicago. In the spheres of history and science, Uta Staley gives to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the Chicago History Museum, The Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Adler Planetarium, all of which seek to educate future generations on the important events of human history and the history of the world as well.

In addition, Uta Staley contributes to the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Chicago Botanic Garden, The Newberry Library, the Alliance Française de Chicago, and San Marino, California’s The Huntington Library. Highly active within the Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago as well, she has sponsored multiple Ethiopian college students at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and other American universities. A naturalized citizen of the United States, Uta Staley was born and raised in Germany, where she attended the College of the Ursulines in Darmstadt.
